2023 US Open Tennis Highlights

Ben Shelton serve clocks in at 149 mph

There have been so many good matches and great shots at the 2023 US Open Tennis tournament it’s hard to single out any one that sticks out more than another.  Carlos Alcaraz is a walking highlight reel and a few of his points in the Evans match were downright ridiculous.

Maybe not as flashy or spectacular as some of the amazing shots we’ve seen at this years 2023 US Open Tennis tournament was the sheer power of the Ben Shelton serve in his match against Tommy Paul.

Shelton hit not one, but two 149 mph serves against Paul that helped him win his match over Mr. Paul and avenged his earlier quarterfinal loss to Paul at the 2023 Australian Open.

2023 US Open Tennis Preview

With the win, Shelton becomes the youngest American man to advance to the US Open quarterfinals in 20 years since Andy Roddick made it that far at the 2002 tournament.

Another significant milestone at this year’s US Open tennis tournament is that five American players have advanced to the quarterfinals.

Three American men including Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, and Ben Shelton all advance to the quarterfinals which is the first time that has happened since 2005.  That year saw Andre Agassi, James Blake, and Robby Ginepri all advance to the quarterfinals.  Andre Agassi advanced all the way to the final and lost to Roger Federer.

On the women’s side of the draw, two American women, Madison Keys and Coco Gauff both advance to the quarterfinals with those matches currently scheduled for Tuesday.

I’m looking forward to a great second week of tennis in New York at the US Open and I hope we will see at least one or more of our American players advance in to the US Open finals.
