For players coming from across the Valley, the location is hard to beat. The Tempe Sports Complex sits just off the 10 freeway, approximately 4 miles from the 101, putting it squarely in the middle between Scottsdale to the north and Chandler to the south. It is one of the most centrally accessible public pickleball facilities in the East Valley area.

How Many Pickleball Courts does Tempe Sports Complex Have?
There are 16 dedicated pickleball courts at the Tempe Sports Complex, equipped with LED lighting for evening play and open daily from 6 am to 10 pm. The 16 courts are arranged in two banks of 8 courts each, separated by a covered walkway with shade structures running the full length of the facility, a genuinely welcome feature for Arizona players waiting between games.
Two of the 16 courts are among the first ADA accessible pickleball courts in the State of Arizona, a meaningful upgrade that makes this facility more inclusive than nearly any other public court in the Phoenix area.
The Tempe pickleball courts are very active day and night and especially on weekends, drawing a wide range of players from beginner to advanced. Weekday mornings, weekday evenings, and Saturday mornings tend to draw the biggest crowds. New players are always welcome, the player community here is genuinely friendly and open to welcoming newcomers into the rotation.
I have played here several times and can say firsthand that even as a visitor rather than a regular, I was always welcomed into the next game when my turn came up. The players I met were good people and the games were fun and competitive.
One facility detail worth noting, Tempe Sports Complex has one of the more organized open play rotation systems I have seen at a public court. The paddle rack uses a color-coded system with red, white, blue, and gray slots and a NEXT indicator that slides left to right, paddles on the left are always up next. It takes about 30 seconds to figure out and keeps things moving smoothly even when the courts are busy.
Parking is in a large lot directly adjacent to the courts, easy to find and rarely an issue. Restrooms are located just around the north corner of the facility.
And for a fun local bonus, step outside the court facility and look just in the distance beyond the adjacent soccer field and you can see the NFL Arizona Cardinals training facility, the front entrance and parking lot are visible on most any day. It is a fun local detail that makes the Tempe Sports Complex feel like a destination beyond just the pickleball courts.
